D.R.E.A.M.S. Reading Program - Develop Reading Explore Adventures Maximize Skills
The DREAMS Reading Program, began on September 12th. Parents have on-line access to the AR Bookfinder (to see if a particular book or author is listed), as well as their child's progress in the program. However, most books are part of the program.
Like last year, 4th grade will be required to earn 30 points in order to become a DREAMS member. Students have been earning points much quicker this year, as they are reading chapter books that are worth more. Although this program has been voluntary in the past, it is now part of our new ELA Reading expectations. I highly encourage students to always put forth their best effort when taking tests, as they are expected to retain an 85 or above average within this program. It is very rewarding for them to be recognized for their achievement!
Your home support is greatly appreciated!
4th Grade Math Rocks!!
Forth grade is using the New York State Common Core Curriculum during our in-class lessons. If you have any questions about the Common Core Modules we are using, you may visit EngageNY.org. You may also contact me, and I would be happy to provide you with any information I can.
Our Math homework consists of only 5 daily questions, Monday through Friday. Although it is common core aligned, some of these questions may not be familiar to the students, as it doesn't go along with the modules we are working on in class. Students are encouraged to come see me with any questions they have. They are provided opportunities throughout the day, including first thing in the morning.
It is always beneficial for students to practice their basic facts (x, %, +, -) daily. Repeatedly asking them facts throughout the evening (3 or 4 facts at a time until they master them), would be very helpful. Please encourage your child to practice, as it definitely helps in their everyday lessons.
